    I have a level bed with all kinds of veggies and something CLEANED OUT my broccoli 2 nights ago – nothing else was touched – any ideas what critter did this? I have a hunting dog and the racoons know to stay away – I cant imagine a rabbit would dare come in the yard – I am mystified..

    It was the broccoli fairy! They only eat broccoli at night.

    My guess would be Norway rats before I’d say rabbits.

    You know how when we tell kids that if they don’t eat all their veggis, a monster will come and eat them? Well, it turns out that the monster is really just interested in the veggies themselves. Hooray! We’re all safe!

    you guys are cracking me up…but anyway, rats are picky now huh? Must be the Admiral rats..

    My yard is fenced solid and my bed just has a wire fence to keep the dog out – if its rats, I guess there is no fencing that would keep them out. I am so bummed! I gave away 25-30 broc starts and now I have none myself :( so far, the rest of the bed is untouched…

    Gina — you stole my line. Just to make sure Dubyah doesn’t get blamed for everything, Bush the Elder was the broccoli hater.

    I’m guessing that the broccoli fairies are several inches long, slimy, and love beer. Offer them some.

    My bed is obviously too welcoming and comfortable!

    This was not a slug job..

    Thanks for the offer Jo, I bought some other veggie replacements, but would love a few broccoli (will have to hire a garden security guard – ha!)
