KenParticipantI am in my 50’s and raised next to an army base. My neighbor was a former drill instructor so I heard a virtuoso in the field at a young age. The Lt Colonel on the other side did a fair job himself when the situation arose.
Perhaps it made me a bit more tolerant.
I didn’t seem to effect me or the several thousand kids he was a scoutmaster of.
The language has changed and continues to change. The current iteration contains dozens of words that were deadly insults and venal sins in ages past.
However François Rabelais is still funny after 500 years.

Today someone destroyed a mans career and bragged about it on this forum.

KayleighMemberYes, I have worked in corporate offices. I have heard very important people swear, and it didn’t phase me.
Not everyone is as reactive and controlling about bad words as you were with this now unemployed stranger. Strangers owe you nothing.

I don’t think anyone has condoned what happened,but you’re an adult and he’s an adult and there were no kids around correct? Sure sounds like the guy was having a bad day but sure we’ve all had one of those,eh?
I’m curious, do you feel he deserved to loose his job? You say you didn’t make that decision and that’e true but do you think people should get fired because they lost it a bit?
Anyway I wish you well and am somewhat jealous of you if this is all you gotta be worried about:)Maybe you should drop the latte’s and while you’re at it get a life?

No that’s not what I said. If I listen to heavy metal music I’m not then going to go out and kill people…that’s more my point. I can choose how to react. Whereas others that never learned how to modulate their feelings might go out and kill after hearing those lyrics. I know I have a choice in how I’m going to act.

CMPParticipantDang, what an interesting string! Maybe the guy has Turret’s (sp?) syndrome and can’t control it? I’ve heard plenty of swearing in the corporate world and am not in the least offended by it. I will say it sounds like this guy went above and beyond, but it was no reason to make a phone call with the resulting firing of him. Maybe it was the straw that broke the camel’s back though. I guarantee you this “jerk” would have a few choice words for lattemom if he found out the catalyst for his firing! And heaven forbid you’re driving next to me any day with my windows rolled down…you’d hear a lot worse coming out of my mouth compared to that construction worker with the crappy driving around here!

AnonymousInactiveCruiser: I have a wonderful and fun life, thank you very much! I am a Stay At Home Mom, volunteer at an area hospital, run a business here at home that is very success, enjoy watching our kids grow up. I am very lucky to be able to stay at home with our children, my husband has a geat job and is gerat at what he does. I get on this board in between errands and shopping for groceries and the such. I am also very involved at our school. I also involve our children working at area food banks. I have a very full life. I have already worked for over 25 years in a very corporate office. We also travel when ever we can and make a point at visiting areas that we can assist Habitat for Humanity projects, so we do give back to the community.

Regardless, while it doesn’t phase me, I don’t understand why you think it was okay to use that language here where it sits for readers of all ages. Especially if you’re worried about kids hearing these words.

credmondParticipantI’m in awe of lattemom’s ability to command authority and act. Irrespective of one’s opinion of the merit of the phone call, lattemom showed that active, involved, citizens can and do get the attention of the city. That’s a really good thing and a really good thing to know. Take heed, call in if something seems not right. I do. I’m also of the “heard more bad stuff than that before” so usually that kind of foul language goes in and out the same ear. Agree that the guy in question seemed to be having some severe electrical storms inside his head. That’s both sad and worrisome on so many levels. And, I’m a real fan of Ken’s standard of ethics. Reminds me of that French standard – Liberté, Fraternité, Egality. Anyway, a really rousing discourse. Also, in lattemom’s defense, the south end of West Seattle can be and is somewhat of a freezone. This was a bit too “wild west” for a family neighborhood.

acemotelParticipantThe guy was swearing, and there were children ~~somewhere~~ in the vicinity…… ha ha ha oh, this is too too too funny. Fortunately, “being fired” in labor generally means being sent home from a certain job on a certain day, not fired for all time. Nothing commendable here; no reason to be proud, with impunity no less.

ps Lattemom maybe you could go back and edit out the offending words as this forum is open to all including children…or do I need to report you to WSB and get you fired!
