ellenaterMemberHey bloggers,
We are all moved in and I just wanted to tell you again how much we appreciate your help finding a rental, as well as your other suggestions. It took a week to fully get moved out of our old house and during that time we just dreaded having to leave West Seattle to go over and do cleaning, etc. The more we were here, the more astonished we were that we had ever actually lived ‘there’.
We love Easy Street for breakfast, Lincoln Park, The YMCA, Cafe Ladro, C & P Coffee, Elliott Bay Brew Pub, and the sushi place on California that starts with an “A”. Mostly we love the people. Everyone has been so kind and welcoming. I have yet to meet anyone who hasn’t whole-heartedly welcomed us to the neighborhood. Our new neighbors even brought us muffins this morning. I’m giving my cynicism two weeks before it is completely squelched by West Seattle love.
So, in case you ever forget how incredible your town is, just remember: West Seattle really does have more cowbell.
Thanks again,
Ellenater and family

BonnieParticipantwelcome to the neighborhood! We love it here too. (obviously. LOL!)
July 14, 2008 at 2:56 am #631306
ChessaMemberI second your sentiments, Ellenator! We’ve been here about a month and a half and everyday we wake up feeling like we won the jackpot – I can’t believe we actually get to live here.
July 14, 2008 at 4:05 am #631307
ZenguyParticipantI grew up here and it has grown in good ways (mostly) but the small town friendlyness is still prevelant. We had a little WSB meet-up at Triangle Pub and had a great time.
Welcome to WS and happy exploring, there are so many hidden gems.
July 14, 2008 at 4:17 am #631308
JoBParticipantYou have both already started contributing to your community…
we can’t wait to meet you.
welcome.
..
oh.. we’ve been here 9 months now and i am still pretty pumped.

JanSParticipantEllenator…I am an east coast transplant. I married into West Seattle in 1974, got divorced in 1995, and still live here, wouldn’t consider any place else. So, I’m almost a native :)
Zenguy, it has changed, and we all complain about some of it, but it’s still our little town over here on the peninsula, and it rocks!
July 14, 2008 at 6:32 am #631310
AnonymousInactiveBeen here about 9 months and everyday is heaven to us (yes, even the rainy ones). We feel so lucky that we ended up in WS – especially since we knew absolutely NOTHING about Seattle before we moved here!
Zenguy – I had a great time today too! It’s always so great to actually meet people from the forum in person!
July 14, 2008 at 6:45 pm #631311
ellenaterMemberIt’s crazy how different WS is from the rest of Seattle, especially in terms of friendliness. I think people here must be happier in certain ways.
And thanks, JoB. I am looking forward to getting involved in community here. Just need to unpack a few hundred more boxes first. :)
JanS,
the hubby is also an east coast transplant. He loves it here, too.
July 14, 2008 at 7:19 pm #631312
JanSParticipantEllenater…the hubby’s a smart man ;-)
July 14, 2008 at 8:14 pm #631313
ZenguyParticipantIt was a pleasure to meet you as well NR. Funny how just putting a face with the screen name can change your perception. I look forward to more, I laughed so much my cheeks hurt.
July 14, 2008 at 10:50 pm #631314
tubeytootooMemberNew to West Seattle too (two months) and we still giggle at how awesome a place it is. Perfect fit for us. I go walking in Lincoln Park and just revel in the beauty. I’ve never even heard of better neighbours. There’s something really good about West Seattle. You have to experience it.
July 14, 2008 at 11:03 pm #631315
thriftwaygirlParticipantYAY! Welcome and happy to hear you got all moved in. I have never lived in a place that I could say I actually loved, even where I grew up.
WS has it all – and the best part is the people and landscape. My husband teases me and calls me the “Duchess” of West Seattle because I never have anything bad to say about it and find myself not venturing out of it too often anymore.
July 15, 2008 at 12:09 am #631316
ellenaterMemberThere IS something special about this place. Maybe it’s some geographical good vibe thing. Like a vortex. It still is absolutely crazy to me that the rest of Seattle isn’t bending over backwards to live here. I kept thinking that there was something wrong and I just hadn’t figured it out yet. Does 99 suck, or something? Because I have been zipping around all over WAY easier than from N. Seattle. I’ll even go downtown now. Maybe it’s too friendly here for the evil Northerners.
July 15, 2008 at 1:56 am #631317
JanSParticipantellenater, just wait. ONe day you’ll tell someone that you live in West Seattle, and they’ll say “Oh, West Seattle, way over there. That’s so far from everything”. Just smile and nod…:)
July 15, 2008 at 3:00 am #631318
JoBParticipantLOL… We wont be the best kept secret in town if we tell everyone :->
of course we do want them to visit and spend money at our local businesses.. come for some shopping.. a drink and dinner :)
We’re a great tourist destination :)
hehehehehe
Sorry JT… i couldn’t resist beating JanS to it.
July 15, 2008 at 3:07 am #631319
ZenguyParticipantI have always smiled when people comment on the traffic over here. Ya, it’s terrible takes me ten fifteen minutes to get downtown and the other secret highways (509 and 599) we have make life pretty easy too.
July 15, 2008 at 3:20 am #631320
ChristineMemberJanS — your posting made me laugh. I used to be one of those people who thought WS was in the middle of nowhere. Boy was I wrong. I love it here (12+ months) and will take your advice….in order to keep this wonderful place our little secret.
July 15, 2008 at 5:01 am #631321
ellenaterMemberWell, I don’t feel I can keep it secret because everyone welcomed us with open arms. But I promise not to shout it from the rooftops…
Hey Thriftway Girl,
Are you at the one on California? That’s my local store! It’s great, too!
July 15, 2008 at 7:26 am #631322
JanSParticipantZenguy, I’m always amazed when I take West Marginal to 509 going south. People don’t realize how great that route is, and maybe we shouldn’t talk about it too much :). I used to work at Sea-Tac doing massage, and had to be there at 11am. There were times that traffic was so light that I could literally get there in 20 minutes (shhhh – yes, that extra 5 mph helped – lol). Or if you take 509 to 160th, your right at Trader Joes..only takes about 20 minutes or so, and happy shopping. Can’t beat that :)
July 15, 2008 at 2:18 pm #631323
SueParticipantWe’ve been in West Seattle about 2-1/2 years now and never tire of it. We’ll drive down a hill and see the view of the water/mountains and it takes our breath away and I always say that I’m so blessed to live here and can’t believe that I call this home. I can’t imagine living anywhere else in Seattle. I’m only sorry I didn’t move here a year earlier when I first moved here from NY.
Zenguy, I also laugh at the traffic comments. Sure we can get traffic on the bridge – we’re in a city! But normally I walk out of my downtown office at 4:30, hop a bus and I’m walking in my door by 5:00. I can’t complain at all. You want traffic, try the Lynnwood to downtown commute which I did for 1+ years – that bus route just sucked.
July 15, 2008 at 2:26 pm #631324
ZenguyParticipantI know, North is the worst…I do not know how they stand it. I know more than one couple that has made the switch (shibaguyz). For a good sunset place check out SW Donovan at 37th, they have a set of chairs there cemented in to watch…very cool.
July 15, 2008 at 3:07 pm #631325
JoBParticipantzenguy..
i am going to have to look for our sunset spot:)
i too live for the glimpses of the sound as i move through traffic.. even tho i currently have it outside my living room window…
July 15, 2008 at 3:19 pm #631326
addParticipantOn the 509 route to SeaTac – I always tell people it never takes me more than 19 minutes to get to the airport, no matter what time of day! And if the traffic’s really light, I can make it in 16!
We’ve been here 10 years – I feel like an old-timer! And I agree to keep the greatness of WS on the down-low. We don’t want it to get tooooo crowded around here. :)
July 15, 2008 at 7:29 pm #631327
ellenaterMemberThat’s great regarding the airport. We have lots of in-laws coming in and out very often!
I tried to get my best friend from Ravenna to move over and she thinks WS is in the boonies. Personally, I think she just likes the shopping. :)
I guess when the viaduct remodel happens it will suck. But we will just look for a house over here when that happens. Someone is bound to get scared and leave. :)
July 16, 2008 at 3:28 am #631328
ZenguyParticipantI just have my peeps call when they get off the plane and meet them when they come out…awesome.
