WSMom….sometimes all we can do is shake our heads at what supposedly intelligent people will accept as fact…the still large faction of people in the US that accept whatever this prez and his cronies tell them, that do not question, that believe only because “he’s our president”…of course a president would never, ever lie….would he?

I continue to add to this thread, even though I’m feeling a bit like I’m beating a dead horse. I am outraged that once Powell spoke in front of the UN I suspended my better judgment and for one minute thought maybe they had a case for a pre-emptive war against Iraq. I resent being fooled and I want the people who lied to me to be brought to justice. I agree with Clarke, if our congress refuses to consider impeachment, then Bush/Cheney/Rice/Rumsfeld/Rove should not be allowed back into polite society to sell their books and make their millions. Blood money for oil and personal gain.

Now that this forum has changed to making Republicans look dumb through sound bites, let’s spend equal time watching the Dems talk about how inexperienced Obama is:

Dems = Hillary,Bill, and Joe Biden?

    HA!

That’s an easy ad to make House.

I think the Republicans will make the grave mistake of centering on Iran, creating fear once again.

I hope they do, because the real issue at hand is: “It’s the economy Stupid”

    WSMom,

This administration will continue (because it works) to keep repeating over and over the same memo points regarding evidence for the presumptive war.

It’s one of the most effective ways to market any product, in this case war.

Unfortunately as JanS said, people want, or need to believe in the President that “he knows best”, unless you know a little more about our history.

    theHouse..

you are good at lobbing distractions.. but even you must be somewhat unsettled by the senate report… which is consistent with what a few “malcontents” from this White House have already published…

Your president deliberately misrepresented the facts to you… and spent US resources in Iraq instead of pursuing those who were actually responsible for 911.

Your president spent your hard earned dollars pursuing a war… and hasn’t been honest about either the future cost or the current costs..

    that should p..s you off.

and put you off the current Republican party.. your president is it’s leader, you know.

i know.. it hasn’t… but it should.

my apologies for my comments on another thread.. i thought this subject was overlooked… and i find it wasn’t… i am glad to find us talking about it.

I am discouraged that any Republican defense is now referred to as “lobbying distractions”.

That’s doesn’t seem, to me, as proactive discussion lingo.

    NewResident..

when there is one topic and the defense is another totally different topic.. that can be called lobbing distractions.. whether you are republican or democrat…

and the House particularly likes to lob distractions.. or stir the pot.. however it is that he sees it…

I think he would be the same if he was a democrat:) He’s TheHouse.

I can see where that report would make most Republicans particularly uncomfortable.

But it should make make us all uncomfortable that our government chose to deceive us to pursue some hidden agenda.. an agenda that has yet to be shared with the American people.

And it should make us even more uncomfortable that our press didn’t alert us…

you may think that is just fine as long as republicans are in the White House.. but there is a good chance they won’t be this fall.

Then how will you feel about a press that doesn’t do it’s job?

worth thinking about no matter what your political affiliations are…

I’m playing devil’s advocate, but what if by chance the “hidden agenda” is saving our country and Democracy and every left wing nut job protesting at the Junction each weekend is simply being kept in the dark about why we’re really there?

We’ve had alot of hidden agenda’s in our history.

Some were noble, some were considered criminal.

“What if” this hidden agenda isn’t working and they continue to push it rather than take a loss?

    TheHouse..

my brother makes the same argument… and i think about it often.

but.. i also think about the hidden agendas i have experienced in my lifetime from the President’s office and those i have studied from history…

i can admit that there have been a few historical instances where i ultimately understood and somewhat approved of the hidden agenda.. but those in my lifetime haven’t been quite so noble… in fact, the opposite can be said.

I find when I have been lied to and I have to resort to the hidden agenda defense for my belief in those who lied to me.. it is time to re-examine the basis of my belief in those who apparently think i am too stupid to understand their motivations.

Jon Stewart had a guest a day or so ago who proposes that the only path towards true democracy is education… that when we think people are too stupid to understand why we are doing something and we choose to work around them (see how nicely i put that).. that all we do is ensure that people will be too stupid to make even the most basic choices about politics…

and by stupid.. i mean misinformed.. because i believe that even those without educations are generally smart enough to make good decisions given good information.

some would say that is the situation we find ourselves in now.

I can understand instances where it might be in the best public interests to hide some of the truth.. but not where outright lies are used to sell something as essential to the nation’s health as a war… where lies are used to promote profit over public safety… where lies are actually written into government publications because the truth doesn’t support current government policy.

And unfortunately, that has been the policy of the current Bush White House…

I think that should upset us all… even you House.

i suspect you make an effort to have accurate information when you make decisions that will affect the future of your business and your family.

i think that’s what we should have as a nation.. when so many of those decisions directly affect our physical, emotional and economic health.
