ZoeFParticipantAlong with many, many, others in our dear West Seattle I am grieving and devistated. I am also looking for next steps. I crave action. I would love to gather with like-minded spirits to share ideas and gain inspiration. Are others interested? Let’s talk here and make a plan to gather.
November 14, 2016 at 1:12 pm #864875
mostlycynicalParticipantNo need to plan a gathering ZoeF… just show up on Capital Hill any night of the week and wander through the streets with the myriad of other grieving and devastated ‘not my president’ crowds, ‘like-minded spirits’ chanting their insipid, hateful diatribe against our new President Elect.
Next steps? Just watch Rachel Madcow’s show nightly… she outlines all the useful tools you need to become a proactive President Trump hater.
My advice, take a couple of aspirin for the election hangover and move on. (get it, Move On… ha ha).
November 14, 2016 at 1:35 pm #864880
JKBParticipantWould you be fighting the bad conduct from both sides?
November 14, 2016 at 1:41 pm #864881
melissaParticipantZoe, I know that many religious congregations are linking up with other for multi-faith fellowship and charitable work, so that’s one option. There is also the option of contacting political leaders directly, by phone or mail. You could volunteer directly with communities likely to be affected by this travesty (food banks, tutoring at High Point, organizations that support women’s health, organizations that support people in or near poverty). Good for you for looking for ways to improve the world.
As for you “Mostly Cynical”, let me get this straight, a person looks to understand how she can be a contributing member of the democracy in which we live and your response is to be belittling and sarcastic. You don’t speak well for the sort of person who supported our president-elect.
November 14, 2016 at 2:22 pm #864893
mostlycynicalParticipantMelissa – spare me the self-righteousness indignation.
“..affected by this travesty”. Travesty? What Travesty?? By whom or what definition?? Are you now belittling our Democratic process to only fit your own narrow political standard ?!
My light-hearted jab at the local liberals ‘devastation’ from the election PALES in comparison to the ignoramus masses out protesting nightly in majors cities across the country. Why do I not see any of the national media or DNC members or POTUS loudly denouncing this behavior (criminal rioting, looting, burning effigies in some locations)? Where is the “time to heal message” from the left? The post-election hypocrisy is palpable.

melissaParticipantOh, for goodness sake, “Mostly Cynical”. There were riots in Portland. There have been 100’s of thousands of people demonstrating peacefully. That’s not hypocrisy. And when the president that 28% of Americans of voting age elected (fewer than voted for Clinton) appoints a chief advisor who is a homophobic, anti-Semitic, racist, it shows many of us — more than ever that it’s time to protest, demonstrate and act.
November 14, 2016 at 7:13 pm #864929
JanSParticipantmostlycynical…are you here to really discuss? or are you here to just be rude to people? Are you as hateful as the rest of Trump supporters? Do you understand that there are many who disagree with you? If HRC had won, would you be the one coming on here and calling her all sorts of names? You know, how the right wingers called her “Killary” and other abominable things? Spreading lies about her past, and how she’s a criminal, although they could never show where she was indicted, had a trial, convicted? You approve of those tactics? Or are you willing to call that crap out, too.
Donald Trump was instrumental in calling Barack a Kenyan, in being a birther, harping on Obama’s birth certificate, and spreading false ideas about him…because he was black. You’re OK with that? Mitch McConnell made it quite obvious that his only job after Obama was elected in 2008 was one of obstruction….you’re OK with that? You’re OK with impeding getting things done for the good of this country by a Republican Congress that couldn’t even pass one jobs bill in the 6 years they’ve been in charge? But spent how much fighting the ACA , and investigating Benghazi. You’re OK with that? With ignoring vets, and funding them? With giving more and more tax breaks to people who are worth many times more than you, while doing NOTHING for you. You’re OK with that? Do not act all high and mighty because many, many people do not like your lord and savior president Donald Trump. The good thing about this country that’s already great…we can actually disagree that he is presidential at all. And we can speak it out loud….imagine that!
See how that works? Melissa can come on here and ask something like she did, and expect to be respected in what she posts, just like you. It’s not your job to come on here and denigrate her or anyone else. Damn :(

JanSParticipantJKB…West Seattle is a fairly unique part of Seattle. I believe we have a little more compassion here than other neighborhoods. Maybe it’s because we’re a bit isolated from the rest of Seattle, surrounded by water on 3 sides. But something is different. Zoe said she wanted to find a group, have a gathering, to discuss hate in politics…there is plenty of hate on the right wing side of things, for sure…against blacks, against women (interpreted by many as feminist women), against those that are different than the “master race”, if you will. And frankly, Dems have their own amount, too. Trump supporters (like Dave, who says that those that don’t agree with him have a “mental disorder”) have no problem with being disrespectful, and Dems are frustrated. I would certainly hope that if there is a group that can form to actually gather and discuss, that both side would be included, as long as they are civil in person, and don’t disrespect. We have had groups meet away from here in the past, with people from both sides of the aisle…in meetups, in a BBQ one year. Interesting conversations, getting to know each other, discussing things, and actually finding out that we all have many things in common, and changed perspectives, for the most part, about each other. Always open to everyone…although many choose to remain anonymous , and not join in.

JKBParticipantAnd here I thought I’d asked Zoe a simple question. Nice tirade, though.
November 15, 2016 at 2:33 am #864983
JanSParticipantJKB…at least you admit there is bad conduct on the side that is siding with Donald Trump
November 15, 2016 at 7:59 am #864994
mostlycynicalParticipantJan – No, to be quite honest, I did not come here to actually discuss any issues. I wanted to spend the week, or so, gloating about the much needed shift in power in our federal governance.
There is no real point in trying to discuss anything on this political forum… I log in now and then and have read your posts and see little point in trying to interject or defend my ‘less government’, conservative views. You (and a handful of loyal neighbors) vehemently attack any non-progressive ideas and come across as a mean-spirited wolf dressed in liberal sheeps’ clothing!
Toodaloo and have a wonderful Trump Day !!! :)

WSBKeymasterFor ZoeF – this event announcement just came in. In West Seattle in early December.
November 15, 2016 at 11:30 am #865040
captainDaveParticipantThe action that needs to be taken is a federal class-action lawsuit on behalf of all US citizens against the mainstream media organizations that decimated a false narrative in an attempt to influence the election. Honest journalism would have prevented a lot of shock, anger, depression and strife.
November 15, 2016 at 1:42 pm #865062
birdrescuerParticipantZoe, You might want to check out Faith Action Network (FAN). In fact, they are having an event on Sunday.
Others: Inquistr news is “fake news” which is now spreading on the internet. Ignore it. (That should get me lots of nasty remarks. but, oh, well, it’s the truth)
November 15, 2016 at 3:01 pm #865075
captainDaveParticipantbirdrescuer: as JanS seems to indicate, Truth is haw people want to perceive things. Facts are just not that important when there is a political narrative to serve.
November 15, 2016 at 4:59 pm #865099
JanSParticipantoh, give it a rest…facts? wait until he’s president, and your effing world does not improve…he’s surrounding himself with Wall street types, with corporate types, with racist types, with people who want to govern with their religion, and not the constitution, with those that paid to play…so far, it’s the same ol’, same ol’. He’s starting to renege on the ACA, the wall, LGBTQ, etc. He’s going to get more coaching from Obama (imagine that, the man you love to hate) because he has now caught on to the fact that he doesn’t have a clue (just like you) of what’s involved with actually being president. Many of his supporters will be up in arms on Jan. 21 if he doesn’t get things done THAT DAY. They have no idea that it’s more involved than that. He’s not the CEO of the country, calling all the shots. He’s just one third of it. So…before you continue to gloat, why don’t you wait until he’s actually president. Why am I thinking that he’s not gonna do a damned thing for you. I guess the proof is in the pudding, isn’t it? We will accept just like you did when the city’s decision was against you….
November 15, 2016 at 6:40 pm #865107
captainDaveParticipantJanS: My world has already improved:
1.) We averted an imminent path to nuclear war with Russia.
2.) We stopped a deeply corrupt criminal enterprise from taking over the white house and setting precedence for graft throughout all levels of government.
3.) We preserved the right to continue having free speech (like this).
4.) We are on our way to preserving the US constitution for at least another forty years. That’s pretty much all I wanted. But then there’s even more:
5.) Leftist controlled mainstream media was thoroughly shammed and made virtually irrelevant.
6.) The stock market rallied to the highest point ever.
7.) We got to give a big F.U. to the elite globalist establishment that had been running our lives.
8.) We got to see Mayor Murray wet his pants in shear panic over the prospect of being forced to follow the laws. And that was just this week! I would say that Trump is doing a pretty good job so far. And he’s not even in office yet!
November 15, 2016 at 7:07 pm #865114
JoBParticipantCaptain Dave..
i don’t know when you will figure this out.. but putting the group in charge who believes in war in the middle east for any pretext is not a good way to avert war with Russia.. they are the guys currently leveling Allep
you put a group of people into the white house who are as we speak trying to find ways to undermine the justice department… and it’s not just Trump.. Spence is in the midst of a fight with the justice department over his own emails
if you are all for preserving the right to have free speech why aren’t you supporting the rights of black lives matter activists and the kids demonstrating against Trump and … or is it only your own free speech rights that you support?
the myth of the leftist mainstream media gets harder to maintain when you look at the stats.. the amount of time that leftist media spent on Clinton controversies and the amount of time it gave Trump is astounding.. it’s a wonder any American was able to dig down to the actual issues in this campaign. and if they did so they did so without the aid of that mythical leftist media
true.. the stock market is at it’s highest point ever.. today. and interest rates are rising even thought he fed lending rate remains at minimal levels
I am not sure who it is you think you gave the big FU to.. i know who you think it is. but I am pretty sure you are going to find that they will be just fine.. have you actually looked at Trump’s new tax proposals?
last.. although i am no fan of Murray’s.. we got to see him stand up for what the citizens of Seattle believe in.. in spite of the fact that he has reason to be very worried about the future of those he champions. That’s what courage looks like.but. hey.. why let reality intrude?
November 16, 2016 at 9:11 am #865175
JoBParticipantZoeF
i wrote a post about one alternative to meeting like minded people.. but it doesn’t seem to have shown up yet. just in case it shows up.. i will go on with an alternative.
Seattle has a local chapter of the Coffee Party.. who are more organized nationally than you might think and who i believe concentrate on local political solutions.
Right now they seem to be engaged in “it’s all her fault” mode.. but they are politically motivated to create substantive change.
and there is also your local democratic party.. which although it is going through an inevitable shake up already has the know how and the political connections to broker substantive change…
