pigeonmomParticipantI’ve never even heard of a Seattle Dog.

SueParticipantAs a New Yorker, I’m cringing at the thought of cream cheese on a hot dog. :) However, work was slow, so I found this place downtown: http://www.yelp.com/biz/dog-in-the-park-seattle
Hope it’s everything you’re looking for!
June 14, 2010 at 9:11 pm #696493
westcoastdebParticipantI hadnt either until a few weeks ago, when we grilled some dogs at work and a coworker talked me into trying one the ‘Seattle’ way.
MMMM good!

westcoastdebParticipantIt is everything I want except for the downtown. :-/

westcoastdebParticipantThe Swinery. I was all excited, going to head down there to get the bf some boudin (even if they didnt have my hotdog of the moment!) and then I realized…they are closet today.
BAH! Will have to try tomorrow.

Garden_nymphMemberI’ve never heard of the “Seattle Dog”. Cream cheese on a hot dog, I’ll have to think on that one. Grilled buns are always preferred. This could be yet another one of those business ideas that opens a small shop in West Seattle.

ToddinWestwoodMemberWouldnt a Seattle Dog consist of a Tofu dog, tofu cream cheese and a whole wheat, locally baked, toasted by a solar oven, bun?

greatfree1MemberAnyone 35 and under that has been downtown should know what a Seattle dog is! Every Hot Dog stand in Seattle sells them outside the night clubs. The one by Tia Lou’s in Belltown is the best! With grilled onions, spicy brown mustard, sriracha and cream cheese! It’s the best; and easy to do at home if you don’t want to go downtown.

AndyParticipantToddinWestwood – You didn’t say “sustainable.” You simply MUST say “sustainable.”

KBearParticipant…and don’t forget gluten-free!

herongrrrlParticipantThis is fascinating. As a life-long, 40 year old resident of Seattle who spent 15 of those years working in the heart of downtown, I have never heard of the Seattle Dog before reading this thread. But I have heard of a Seattle sushi roll, which also includes cream cheese. How did cream cheese become the essential ingredient of “Seattle” food?
June 15, 2010 at 1:13 am #696505
westcoastdebParticipantI gave up and made em at home. As for cream cheese becoming the seattle food, I dont care — I love it!
June 15, 2010 at 1:48 am #696506
herongrrrlParticipantMind you, I’m not complaining about cream cheese, just curious! Although I think Mount Townsend Creamery’s Fromage Blanc or the garlic and mint Karamage from Karam restaurant are even better…and I can attest that Karamage on a burger is pretty wonderful! Seattle Burger? ;)

westcoastdebParticipantSomehow I am recently in love with avocado too — so throw some avocado on that and we will call it a deal ;)

AdmiralJanewayParticipantNever heard of a Seattle dog either. Speaking of hot dogs, Heartland Cafe has a pretty good Chicago style hot dog.

miwsParticipantI’ll be 52 in a few months, and lived here all my life, and am another that’s never heard of a Seattle Dog.
But then, in the last twelve years, my trips to Downtown have been few and far between, after being down there on a nearly (week)daily basis for the previous 23 or so years.

bebecatMemberI’m with you miws…58 yrs here and never heard of a Seattle Dog nor cream cheese on any hotdog.
June 15, 2010 at 3:44 am #696511
CarolPBMemberI’ve only heard of it because I have a 25 yo daughter that occasionnaly goes to the clubs downtown!

CrystalizedGingerMemberGreatFree1 is correct. The “Seattle Dog” has been around since I started clubbing, ahem..10 years ago.
Lived on Queen Anne hill in my 20’s and when club-hopping and dancing and drinking, there was nothing better than a Seattle Dog at 2am!!! Spicy Keilbasa on a grilled bun, grilled onions, and cream cheese!!
Seattle Dogs can be found outside most Belltown, Capital Hill, and Pioneer Square bars. No real hoppin’ dance clubs here in West Seattle, so I have actually driven the viaduct at midnight for a Seattle Dog when I get the craving :)
Instead of the cart outside Tia Lou’s, I recommend the cart just down from Belltown Billiards.
Edit: AHA! I knew it had been around since 2000!

bebecatMemberWell that explains it, I am not a clubber. But I am getting hungry reading about them and just may have to make myself a Seattle Dog! :)

He’s a super nice guy. We had his cart come to a couple motorcycle/scooter events we have held in the past. Not stingy with the KRAUT!
