dawsonctParticipantMan, weren’t Shakey’s great!? The Pizza wasn’t anything special, but maybe it is why I prefer a thin-crust. Seemed like they used those dough roller machines, so most of the air was pressed from the dough by the time it hit the oven; the sauce was the same semi-tangy, sort of sweet sauce used on every pizza in America in the 60’s and 70’s. The cheese was certainly real, and the pepperoni was probably Oberto, so in other words, it was all good but pretty ordinary. It never was the pizza that hooked me though, it was the silent movies on the Super-8 projector.
Going to Shakey’s to eat pizza and watch some Mack Sennett comedy or Laurel & Hardy or Harold Lloyd; For me, THAT was a little pizza heaven!

Disclaimer: that wasn’t a reference to Pizza Haven, they sucked.

grrParticipantI’ve walked by about a dozen times..looked at the menu and the big TV glow, and just went next door to the yummy thai place instead. Pretty sure I won’t be going in. No excuse for berating an employee in front of customers.

majikMemberI witnessed the manager cave-in to a customer in the dining room who was complaining the music was too loud. He had the sax player stop playing immediately on the spot. While he probably satisfied the customer in the dining room, he pissed off about 10 people who were in the lounge/bar area listening to the sax player. Some of them were offended (rightfully so) and some even left.
I think manager needs to learn the difference between being pro-active and reactive.

bebecatMemberI have been going to Table 35 on Thursdays 8:30-10:30 to watch the live music. “Caela and the Dangerous Flares” are performing on Thursdays thru the end of May. Very intertaining. Caela is a West Seattle girl and a great singer. I suggest you get out and support this local talent.

BlendParticipanthehe good for you.
I just wanted to say ..how cool it is to have a community online to discuss this kind of stuff. I think it will really hold business people accountable for their actions. They will soon realize that if they produce a bad product or have crappy service with just one person..then others will hear about it and might chose not to go there.
Maybe this will start changing the way we do business. Maybe this will mean more quality establishments.
The main thing I like about living in West Seattle is the sense of community. A Community can come together and make the change they want to see.

BlendParticipantThis could all be constructive criticism for the owner..if he comes on this blog.
I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and think that maybe this is all just the growing pains of a new establishment. Having owned a restaurant myself, I know how stressful it can be and how many mistakes I made in the beginning.
Instead of judging..and then saying..I am never going there…based on what a few people said..I would rather communicate with them and welcome them to the neighborhood and decide on my own.
I’d rather help lift people up..than bring them down. It’s jus how I roll. I will check this place out and talk with the owner or manager and see if I can help them. It’s possible that they just might have something great to add to the West Seattle vibe.

DebbyMemberI completely agree with you AlkiCabCompany! Constructive critisism is good and people should talk directly to owners if they have issues. That would be a lot more productive…..
