charlabobParticipantWe definitely love West Seattle Nursery but we’ve found another hidden gem in Georgetown that’s become our hands down favorite (hey, it’s close to WS:
Julius Rosso Nursery & Garden
6404 Ellis Ave S
Seattle, WA 98108
Phone: (206) 763-1888
It’s much less polished than West Seattle Garden, but I think, more varied and definitely less expensive. The bob half just gave me this report: If you know what you want, you can get good stuff. :-)
The folks who work there are friendly and knowledgeable; and sometimes hard to find — when they’re out on the back 40. Hence the “know what you want.” Family business, which started out wholesale only. Definitely worth the short trip.
I couldn’t find their web site but this blog gives you a good idea of what you’ll find (and probably tells you more than you want to know about my taste in funky shopping places)

(I’ve posted this in a couple threads where it seems to have been consumed by the spam filter — if it suddenly shows up everywhere, it almost will be spam — not on purpose) :-)

charlabobParticipantYou’re welcome! Since we’ve actually been there, I can attest to the reality of the pix — if I hadn’t been there, they would send me. It certainly doesn’t look like a suburban garden emporium. :-)

ErikParticipantCharla –
I popped into Rosso’s yesterday and will definitely go back as there was too much to see in one visit! When I used to live in Boulevard Park I’d drive past that place daily to get from I-5 over to Des Moines Mem Drive…but never once stopped in…for over 10 years…talk about tunnel-vision.

IrukandjiParticipantYears ago I had heard they were going out of business. I am so glad to hear that they are still around! I remember the location being almost farm-like, wholly open for wandering. I appreciate all that WS Nursery does for the community, but it’s a VERY difficult place to be with a toddler. We are GOING to Russo!
Thanks for the posts!

charlabobParticipantMBH, you are dangerous :-) Seriously, thanks for finding even more places for me to spend $. At least this year I seem to actually be planting the plants I buy.
BTW, I’m too lazy to look this up — how/where can I recycle the ugly green plastic pots everything comes in? I’ve actually tried taking the plants out of the pot and putting them (plants) in canvas bags, but the garden stores simply throw the pots in the trash, so it doesn’t do much good.
I suspect, unless JT’s GF wants to make art of them, there’s a fairly large available supply, so I won’t be deluged with requests. I deliver. :-)
