West Seattle, Washington
26 Thursday
5:14 PM: Indoor, outdoor, online – including the video playlist above – you have multiple ways to enjoy tonight’s West Seattle Art Walk! Participating venues and artists are spotlighted on the WSAW website – times and locations vary. We’re headed out to check on a few in-person stops – coverage to come.
5:44 PM: Outdoor stop! Ginny Conrow at Brace Point Pottery:
BPP is the southernmost stop on the Art Walk, 42nd/100th in Arbor Heights.
6:07 PM: Verity Credit Union (4505 California; WSB sponsor) is open until 8 pm, featuring 19-year-old artist Saiyana Suzumura:
Saiyana is quoted on the Art Walk website: “One day after drawing one of my friends, I just began to draw all kinds of black women, and black people in general, amongst other ethnics who are not portrayed beautifully in this society, but I want to capture the beauty of black beauty and love in my art. Since drawing with my new found style I’ve explored other ways of communicating social awareness through my drawings and paintings. I want my art to empower my people.”
P.S. Verity is a hybrid indoor/outdoor stop tonight – while it’s indoors, the entire front of the branch is open-air (folding doors).
It’s the second Thursday of September, so tonight’s the night to celebrate the end of summer with one more indoor/outdoor/online West Seattle Art Walk. As listed on the official WSAW website, 12 venues – from Admiral to Arbor Heights – are participating – including WSB sponsors Click! Design That Fits (4540 California SW, in-person), Verity Credit Union (4505 California SW, in-person), and Canna West Culture Shop (5440 California SW, online). You can scroll through the online artist gallery now – or go here around the official Art Walk start time, 5 pm, to see the YouTube playlist. The Art Walk has been steadily building back – if your business is interested in participating next quarter, here’s how.
The August West Seattle Art Walk is happening now! Above is the YouTube playlist showing you artists and their work. You can also see highlights in this post on the Art Walk website – which also has the list of businesses you can visit to see art until 8 pm (including WSB sponsor Click! Design That Fits, 4540 California SW). Second Thursday, every month!
5:59 PM: That’s artist Mimi Miles outside Brace Point Pottery in Arbor Heights, with an unusual West Seattle Art Walk sight until 8 pm:
Brace Point Pottery opens its patio and gallery for an outdoor, drive by, wander through sculpture exhibition. Mimi Miles‘ ceramic torsos and portraits are ceramic manifestations of human emotion and movement. Eight larger than life size busts of old white men make up “SENATE MAJORITY” and occupy center gallery, visible from the street. Female torso, “Attitude” conveys its message clearly.
BPP is at 4208 SW 100th. Other Art Walk locations – and online links – are in our preview from earlier today.
6:51 PM: A few sights from the Junction:
Painter Linda McClamrock is showing her work outdoors, at the KeyBank corner. And indoors at Click! Design That Fits (4540 California SW; WSB sponsor), co-proprietor Frances Smersh (below with husband/co-proprietor John) is tonight’s featured artist:
Stop by The Junction before 8.
P.S. Not to get too morose … but if not for the pandemic, tonight’s the Art Walk that would have been combined with what we always called “Summer Fest Eve,” streets closed for setting up our area’s biggest annual festival. Here’s hoping for next year!
With King County going to Safe Start Phase 2 since the last West Seattle Art Walk, that opens more possibilities for in-person participation – so this month’s WSAW is hybrid: Part in-person, part virtual. From the preview on the WSAW website:
Visit an outdoors art show and reception under a shelter tent or overhang:
*Linda McClamrock, Key Bank Plaza, Alaska JunctionVisit an indoor art show and reception, following all state guidelines for masks and capacity:
*West Seattle Grounds, Admiral Junction

Or – online! See the gallery here, which is where you’ll also find the times and addresses for the locations mentioned above. Plus – this YouTube playlist! Support your local artists and businesses however you can; see you on the Art Walk (whose community co-sponsors include WSB).
It’s the second Thursday of the month, which means West Seattle Art Walk night, online! Just launched and viewable above, a video playlist with what organizers explain as a “curated gallery “movie” with a good selection of work for the artists who are coordinated by local businesses, and a representative 1-3 images for all the artist-led exhibits (plus) a selection of personal videos sent in by some of the artists.” You can see all the artists’ work – and find out about them – by going here.
That’s a page from the new printable online “coloring book” offered free by the West Seattle Art Walk. It’s by Dani Dodge, one of 19 artists who contributed to the brand-new “coloring book.” As we’ve seen – and shown – art has been therapeutic, even cathartic, in these pandemic times, so here’s a chance to express yourself – print one page or print them all. This post on the WSAW website explains how.
For a second month, the West Seattle Art Walk – a longtime second-Thursday tradition – is happening online tonight. Organizers have just published the lineup of participants, with this introduction:
Our virtual Art Walk was such a success last month, we had to do it again! Check out the full gallery of work [on the website] or click this link to view a curated virtual Art Walk on YouTube!
We again opened Art Walk to all artists who wanted to join, so have a blend of business-coordinated and artist-led exhibits. Marvel at the wide and deep variety of media, formats, subjects and moods of our 46 artists, an Art Walk Record!!
As for any second Thursday, all art is available for sale. If you would like to purchase something from an artist coordinated by a business, please contact the business first. If you would like to purchase something from an artist exhibiting on their own, please reach out directly to them with the contact information listed.
The Art Walk usually begins – when an in-person event – at 5 pm, so the YT playlist isn’t final until then, but you can follow that link to get a preview of some of the art starting now.
11:47 AM: Tonight is the second Thursday of the month, and that would usually mean West Seattle Art Walk night, at venues all over the peninsula. Though in-person events are still out of the question, the Art Walk team has put together a virtual version for you to enjoy! Here’s the lineup, via the Art Walk website. Organizers explain:
We are excited to feature 40 (!!!) artists, double our regular number, and many of whom haven’t yet had the chance to exhibit at Art Walk. The post is set up like a virtual gallery space, with each artist providing up to 10 images, whether they are hosted by a business or “freelance” / artist-led.
All art is for sale, as for any other Art Walk. If you are interested, just contact the business if listed, or the artist if not.
At 5 pm, we will drop a video playlist of a selection of artists on our Facebook page, so it will be a little bit more like a real walk around!
Thank you for your support of the arts, even in a time of discomfit!
ADDED 5:55 PM: Here’s the video playlists!
WSB is an Art Walk co-sponsor.

6:12 PM: More paintings – this time at Click! Design That Fits (4540 California SW) in The Junction, with co-proprietor Frances Smersh. As explained on the Click! website:
Both her jewelry and her paintings have long been defined by organic forms and color. While we still carry a collection of Frances’ jewelry in-store, painting and drawing have become her primary creative outlet. As her young-onset Alzheimer’s Disease has progressed her paintings have become increasingly abstract. This show includes acrylic works on wood panels, ink on paper, and watercolor, which she has recently discovered a fondness for.
Her reception is continuing until 8 pm too.
Also in The Junction, until 7:40 pm, stop in at John L. Scott (4555 California SW) to enjoy the third Art of Music performance, this time featuring the Nathan & Roz Duo:

Tomorrow night brings the final West Seattle Art Walk of summer – and the second “Art of Music” performance. Here’s the map/venue list:
While the Art Walk’s greatest concentration of venues is in The Junction, participants stretch from Gatewood in the south (The Building) to Alki in the north (Locust Cider). Some of the artists are previewed on the official Art Walk website. Among them, landscape artist Jeni Lee, who will be featured at Click! Design That Fits (4540 California SW; WSB sponsor), 5-8 pm. Steps away, Washington Management Co. Real Estate (4544 California SW) invites you to collaborate on a community canvas 6-8 pm. Not far from there, in the heart of The Junction, by KeyBank at California/Alaska, you’ll see The Art of Music 6 pm-7:40 pm, featuring the duo My Real Job:
Easy Street Records has music tomorrow night, too – a 7 pm in-stone concert by Erin Bowman. So get out on the Art Walk (which is co-sponsored by WSB) for a few minutes or a few hours and enjoy your community’s creativity, 5 pm “until late” tomorrow night.
6:43 PM: The first “Art of Music” performance is happening on the southwest Walk All Ways corner at California/Alaska, as the August West Seattle Art Walk continues. The duo is How Short (Josh Hou and Andy Short). They’re scheduled to play until 7:30 pm, the first of a series of Art Walk-night performances presented by the West Seattle Junction Association. And of course, you’ll find art at multiple venues in The Junction and beyond:

ADDED 9:18 PM: If you’ve seen the posters/cards for this quarter’s Art Walks, you’ve seen Whitney LaRene‘s work:
Her work is featured this month at Flying Apron in The Junction (4709 California SW) – remember that most artists’ work can be seen (often with purchase information if you’re interested) all month long, not just on Art Walk Night. We also stopped at Viscon Cellars (5910 California SW; WSB sponsor), showing work by Nikki Hobensack:
Next West Seattle Art Walk: September 12th!
Tomorrow night’s West Seattle Art Walk will have something extra – “The Art of Music”! Not that the Art Walk itself isn’t full of options – first, here’s the map/venue list:

6:34 PM: The barricades are up and the fun is on. The streets in the heart of The Junction have just closed so West Seattle Summer Fest setup can begin – along with sidewalk cafés, entertainment, and middle-of-the-street strolling between West Seattle Art Walk venues, like Click! Design That Fits (4540 California; WSB sponsor):
Brooke Westlund is at Click! until 8. Full list of Art Walk venues, with previews, is here, or just come to The Junction and start wandering. On California just south of Alaska, Bubbleman‘s performance is about to start. Updates to come!
7:20 PM: Bubbleman is just wrapping up.
What a crowd! He clowned around with an umbrella before even starting with the bubbles, and the countless children on hand were delighted. (“He’s so FUNNY!” one told her grownups.) Yes, all the while, setup is happening too:
The first sidewalk sale is in progress outside Pegasus Book Exchange. And steps away, the Dance Powered fitness “flash mob” just started.
Around 8 pm (later than earlier noted), the VAIN (WSB sponsor)/Lika Love Boutique hair-and-fashion show should be unfolding a little further north. And here’s the night’s official motto:
That’s in the window at Click! (do stop in and meet Brooke the artist).
9:13 PM: We’ve left The Junction after three hours. A few more Summer Fest Eve scenes:

By this time Thursday night, the Junction streets where you’ll find West Seattle Summer Fest Friday-Sunday will be closed to vehicles and open for fun.
