DELRIDGE WAY: 2 chokepoints this weekend

Along with the south Delridge Way closure we’ve been talking about, the intersection of Delridge and Orchard is also going to be a chokepoint this weekend, SDOT warns in the newest update on the project paving the way for the RapidRide H Line:

o We will be working through the weekend to install a catch basin near the middle of the intersection

o There will be flaggers helping to redirect traffic around the work zone. Please plan accordingly and expect heavy traffic and delays.

Catch-basin work is also the reason for this weekend’s closure of part of Delridge:

We will be closing all lanes of Delridge Way SW from SW Barton St to 18th Ave SW beginning tomorrow, August 29. The work will continue through August 30 to allow time for Seattle Public Utilities to complete additional work in the area. Please expect:

• Delridge Way SW to be fully closed from SW Barton St to 18th Ave SW

• Local access only to be allowed from SW Henderson St to SW Barton St and 18th Ave to SW Roxbury St

• Restricted turns from side streets onto Delridge Way SW while the closure is in place

• Access to businesses to be maintained at all times

Unless these are federal funds that must be spent SDOT should really evaluate the spend here. Installing a new rapid ride during a pandemic where ridership has plummeted isn’t wisest decision. Shift those dollars elsewhere.

Kinda too late for that. A big part of the work is repaving & utilities. And here’s hoping the pandemic is past by the time the H Line launches 13 months from now….

It won’t be up and running until 2021 when (hopefully) everyone’s going back to work. IMO, the best time to do the construction is when there are fewer people on the road. Plus it keeps the construction guys working during the pandemic for a project that will help after. Win/win/win.

You really cannot expect the city to abandon a project that’s already years in the making, that’s part of our transportation solution for the next 50 years because we will be in a pandemic for 1.5-2 years can you? If you do, then I am truly starting to understand why NOTHING works well here. The people are why and them choosing to be short-sighted and to cut their nose off to spite their face. *rolls eyes* Please read up on Seattle’s dig once policy and you might get a sense of what the heck is going on. But then again, let’s eliminate the infrastructure improvements this rapid ride line might be bringing you. You don’t need your sewer line to work do you? ;)

They’ve restricted parking on Thistle two weeks ago already despite no work being done on that street, anyone knows why? We have very little parking options left with both Delridge and Thistle blocked. Delridge was expected with construction on the street, but why Thistle?
