UPDATE: Missing man found

8:17 PM: Just got a call from neighbors of the family looking for Byron, missing about half an hour near 56th and Dakota. He’s in his 70s and has dementia; he’s white, with white hair, 5’9″, thin, wearing a red/white/blue collared shirt and tan pants. Police are searching too. If you see him, call 911.

8:20 PM: Good news! He’s been found, safe.

ADDED: The photo mentioned in a comment, published with the family’s permission:

Great team work by the Seattle Police and our neighborhood in bringing Byron home! Love our West Seattle community.

All 4 of the SPD officers were wonderful and caring in finding our great neighbor. Hopefully the blog will post the picture of the wonderful folks.  Also thanks to the blog for their great support.

Our D. syndrome son was mistakenly dropped off in White Center by himself/alone during a major blizzard 2 winter’s ago by a Highline  school district bus driver.  After an hour of searching by the police and first responders he was found.  Thanks to our police!  I know many of you are fed up and want to quit during these crazy times and I don’t blame you for that. I simply want to say you saved a life; more often than not that is what you do.

As the family member of a law enforcement officer, thank you for posting something positive about our police officers. Those who don’t have an inside view don’t know what they’re going through right now. Most of them work hard each day to keep our community safe. Thanks, WSB!

<3 SW Precinct, how awesome.  As a son of a dear, dear loved and adored dad with dementia, that’s one of the worst worries:  Him wondering off.  I’m glad this gentleman is safe and sound, and Scott I’m so glad your son is safe and sound  (hugs).

Thanks for publishing this story and photo. It is nice to hear something positive about the police after all of the recent stories highlighting their awful behavior. I have to admit that my own opinion has shifted dramatically in these past weeks. I tended to give the police a lot of benefit of the doubt. But as dismayed as I was by the George Floyd murder, I’ve been even more dismayed by the seemingly endless examples of police brutality against protestors in the intervening days. I no longer believe the bad-apple narrative, but it’s still nice to know that there are a few good apples in that rotten barrel.
