VIDEO: West Seattle student filmmaker’s view of lockdown life

Our previous story covered one aspect of how education has changed for high-school students because of campus closures. So what’s their view of how life has changed in general because of the stay-home order? This video is a mini-doc by one local student, West Seattle High School senior Riley Nachtrieb, recently featured here after winning an award for another short film, about her . Olympic Discovery Trail run last August. Her new film “People vs. Pandemic” was mostly shot in West Seattle. Got 6 1/2 minutes? Watch above (or here)!

Well done, Miss Nachtrieb! That was awesome! Sorry you didn’t get to finish out your Senior year. Best to you and your future. 🙏

Interesting how something only days old is already out of date. The man waiting for a bus at a bus stop that no longer serves (routes 56/57 were cut), the people not wearing masks in proximity of each other, a coffee shop manager telling customers it’s okay to come close. Do we really have helicopter surveillance?
Interesting about marking days off on a calendar. I was doing the same (we were sent home to work on March 13th) and stopped April 7th. I think that’s when people started envisioning staying at home for months, not weeks.

    Super video!  Really well done!

Really well done. Editing and sound are both excellent too. I agree with the other comment, it’s so interesting to see how quickly things have changed since this video was shot. Only leaving the house once a week, it was particularly eye opening to see video of an empty downtown.

That was excellent! I really appreciate the narration. It’s accuracy and conciseness.  Thank you!

Loved this!  Such great, local reporting.  I also appreciate how this impacts your senior year in a most unexpected and unwelcomed way.  Thank you for sharing this.

Really impressed!  Nicely done especially the perspective you provided. Thank you. I’d love to see your next one on the close of the West Seattle Bridge. You are great at what you do. Keep it up!!

Great work! I agree more would be welcome! I am a huge fan of the podcast, This Podcast Will Kill You, which has a mini series on COVID-19. it would be great to see something like that with minisodes and different people having their experiences captured. Especially the older population and the younger population too. It has been strange for my elementary kids to be at home and I see them process this through pretend play when dolly gets sick with COVID and the flamingo has to wear a sock mask to go out of the living room. Thanks again!

What an excellent film! Loved watching every second of it. Thank you for sharing on the emotional level what this time looks like. It’s unusual, it’s scary, it’s like a rollercoaster where all you want to do is scream..but it will come to an end. Stay positive. Yes.. things are changing but I hope we get to be a bit more grateful for the things we’ve had, we get to have now and look forward to make the best out of what comes next.
