9:24 PM: We’re at West Seattle High School, where the regular basketball season is wrapping up tonight with crosstown rivals Chief Sealth International High School visiting. The girls’ varsity game has just ended with WSHS victorious, 52-20.
ADDED EARLY SATURDAY: Photos and toplines!
The game was hard-fought.
The Seahawks got on the scoreboard first, and the Wildcats didn’t score until a foul shot midway through the first quarter, but then made up for lost time.
West Seattle’s top scorer was #22, sophomore Jadyn Watts (above), with 18. #21, junior Julianna Horne (below), was next with 11.
Sealth’s top scorer was #3, junior Berlyn Martinez, with 13. The Seahawks led for much of the first quarter but were down 10-5 when it ended and never regained the lead. At halftime, WSHS was up 21-14.
In the second half, WSHS pulled away, building toward that 32-point victory margin. This was also Senior Night for the Wildcats; we missed the pregame ceremony, but congratulations to the four seniors:
#4 Alissa Jensen
#5 Ashley Young
#11 Maria Grossi
#23 Emily Buchanan
