Did you get shaken up this morning? Here’s why

We’ve heard from a few people reporting an explosion of some type shaking them up in eastern West Seattle – particularly Riverview – early this morning. Thanks to Jeff for pointing out a specific call on the Seattle Fire 911 log – 500 South Myrtle (map), on the east shore of the Duwamish River, directly east of Riverview (and South Park), which cross-references to Seattle Boiler Works, had a short-lived SFD response for a “minor explosion” just before 7 am. We haven’t yet reached SFD to ask about injuries, but the call was closed out (meaning emergency personnel all left) in less than an hour.

thanks! i heard it this morning and it sounded like someone slamming the door to my shed. i had to go out and look and make sure no one was out there. :) I’m near 9th and holden.

Yup, my whole apartment shook, and the dog crawled under the bed for cover. Then sirens, then nothing. I’m surprised (and glad) no one was hurt. There must at least be some burst eardrums down there at Seattle Boiler Works.

Thanks fot checking. Heard it as well as felt it. It shook the windows, even if it was “minor”.

I felt it in the 8800 block of 37th ave sw – granted it was slight, and I just happened to be standing still in a quiet house at that exact moment, but it was definitely noticed.

I’m in the heart of Riverview and I didn’t really notice anything.

I was walking to a bus stop on 16th near Elmgrove. I heard it clearly. It was clearly an explosion, and I thought it was a big one.

Yup..both hubby and I heard/felt it…sounded like a large something thrown against the n.e. corner of the house…

A large recycling operation is right next to Seattle Boiler and they routinely have very large explosions due to, among other things, crushing gas tanks in scrap cars. Seattle Boiler used to get showered with debris when this happened until the recycling place installed netting to catch what flies off in explosions.

Very loud boom, shook the house. Felt like a car hit the house. Glad no one was hurt. If this was a “small” explosion I don’t want to hear or feel a large one. Been at this address for 26 yrs & this is the first one I’ve encountered.
