Sailboat on the sand: Beached on Alki

We’re receiving notes pointing out/asking about a sailboat that’s up on the sand on Alki Beach this morning, not far east of the Bathhouse. We don’t know anything but the circumstances but we do know that authorities are aware – there was scanner talk about it earlier this morning, including the acknowledgment that it’s probably going to be there for some hours, as the tide is very low this morning and high tide isn’t until about quarter past 7 tonight.

I saw it drift in this morning. Looked as though the sailor’s small engine quit on him and the boat was at the mercy of the winds and waves. He was barely able to negotiate it over to the sandy part of the beach before getting stuck. Looks like a long day for that sailor who is still sitting on the beach not far from the boat.

Thank you. We aren’t likely to be able to get back over to Alki for some hours because of the festival but if anyone happens to hear of any community help needed by the boat owner in the attempt to get off the beach, we would certainly add it here to get the word out in hopes somebody somewhere could assist. – TR

fixed keel? keel visible and on it’s side? Is the mast mounted? Rough guess how long? If it’s a drop keel, refloating won’t be difficult and a friendly tow to Armeni since the motor died. Sunset 9 pm

The boat is on the sand across from our place. Everyone is hovering around it taking photos. The sailor is sitting on a log nearby. I felt bad for him so I brought him some pretzels, leftover Swisher Sweet cigars that we never smoked on vacation (he asked for a cigarette when I asked him if he needed anything), and something to drink. He really appreciated it – just got the impression that he might not have a lot.

Just brought him more “supplies” ;). There are two nice veterans down there helping him. They got the outboard motor working, just need some musle to get the boat back in the water.
