West Seattle traffic alert: Tree down on California Way north of Hamilton Viewpoint

10:56 AM: California Way is blocked by a downed tree. We are here checking it out. Police are on scene turning traffic back. SDOT is here cutting up the tree.

11:26 AM: Please comment or otherwise let us know if you go through the area and it’s clear – there are no official updates on things like this and we won’t be going back to check for a while. Thanks!

3:10 PM: Commenters say it’s still closed and might not open for hours to come.

7:51 PM: Thanks to everyone who has reported the road has reopened.

    Drove by and got the word from the crew that it will probably be 8pm before it’s clear.

    Road is still closed. One truck just left full of sawn-up logs. Another truck is loading up….

    Appears to be open now. Just drove through a couple of minutes ago.

    It was open an hour ago when I drove down the hill.

    Alder remember years back when there a was a big slide further down the and they had rounds galore of alder.

    the fate of an ivy-infested tree in the wind. Ivy getting up into the canopy of a tree acts like a sail in the wind and the extra weight on the tree makes it really vulnerable to blow-down-especially on slopes.

    The road was open at 6:00.
