New Seattle Supt. José Banda to help open K-5 STEM at Boren

Just got word from Seattle Public Schools about the rounds that new Superintendent José Banda plans for the first day of school on Wednesday; the district says he will start the day at West Seattle’s brand-new K-5 STEM at Boren, 9 am-10 am, before heading out to schools elsewhere in the city. That is really thoughtful. Look forward to meeting him.

Congratulations to West Seattle on the newest K-5 STEM program. I hope to hear from parents about your students’ experiences. I am a huge fan of our STEM schools.

Oh, he ventures out of the bunker without having a banquet or celebratory dinner offered? Surprising. For someone who was going to “listen” when he got here (late June), he’s had minimal interaction with actual families….

I really like the guy and expect good things. He has been talking to stakeholders since arriving, and now offers community meetings and one-on-one appts for parents or anyone else interested. Sounds like willingness to engage to me. I hope that Seattlelites give him a chance to do his (incredibly difficult) job before they rip him to shreds.

Sorry, comment time is over.
