West Seattle Weather Watch: Lightning and thunder, then rain

Thanks to Doug B for sharing that view of lightning visible if you’re looking southwest over Vashon – radar, and numerous Twitter reports, place it actually off to the southwest; Olympia and environs report quite a show tonight. We’ve heard some thunder from here; the KING 5 radar shows it moving northwest up over the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas, so the lightning might not get any closer, but if you have a western view, it’s a sight to see.

3:19 AM: Raining now. Adding that photo by Jason Attaman of Alki (shared via the WSB Facebook page), showing the storm clouds at sunset, just a few hours before the thunder/lightning.

5:31 AM: Louder thunder just now, and heavy rain. Just in case you see this after waking up and wondering what happened while you slept.

More storms of similar or greater intensity will develop as we move through the night and early morning hours. VERY DANGEROUS cloud to ground Lightning and Heavy rainfall ( locally ) otherwise enjoy what is likely our last bout with T-storms for the foreseeable future after tonight.

A friend of mine is in a Shakespeare in the Park production of Hamlet down in Olympia–apparently the thunder made for great punctuation to the drama! :D

Very strong squall line moving into the metro area with pulse SUPER CELLS along the southeastern slopes of the Cascades moving NW over the crest into W. Wa very soon, what we have NOW is nothing compared to the pulse cells( East ) moving this way.
