ADDED EARLY SUNDAY: Our summary of WSHS/Sealth results – ahead:
From WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand:
Eight Metro League teams played a seeding tournament at West Seattle High today with the top two advancing to the state tournament. Early in the day Chief Sealth played Eastside Catholic where the Seahawks lost three games to one (13-25, 15-25, 25-23. and 15-25). At the same time West Seattle played Seattle Prep. The Wildcats also lost by a margin of 3 to one (12-25, 12-25, 25-20, and 13-25.) The losses eliminated both neighborhood teams from the championship game.
Early in the afternoon both played consolation rounds with West Seattle playing Blanchet and Chief Sealth playing Holy Names. In those games Sealth lost three in a row (22-25, 16-2, and 11-25) while West Seattle advanced to later play by winning three out of four games (18-25, 25-22, 20-25, and 26-24) That set up a West Seattle-Holy Names match for third place. West Seattle got off to a slow start but made up ground in the middle games which forced a full five-game match. At the end the Wildcats came up short as Names took the tiebreaker. West Seattle’s final set came out 13-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, and 11-15.
