The traditional weekly edition of “traffic alerts around the city because of big events this weekend” is out. Nothing traffic-affecting is expected in West Seattle this weekend, but in case you’re going to be off the peninsula and don’t like traffic surprises – read on for SDOT‘s newest list:

On Friday, October 7, the Anniversary of the War Protest March and Rally could cause delays in the downtown during the afternoon commute as participants are escorted by police along Pine Street from Broadway to Westlake Park. On Saturday, the Pioneer Square and SODO areas will be hopping with the Downtown Throwdown snow board exhibition in Occidental Square, a Seattle Sounders’ soccer match at CenturyLink Field and the Great Pumpkin (beer) Festival in the Elysian Brewery parking lot on Airport Way. On Sunday morning, 800 runners are set to take part in the Magnolia “Run the Bluff” 12K and 5K.

Motorists should also keep in mind a couple of construction projects that could slow their travels this weekend. From 11 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, the I-5 Mercer Street on- and off- ramps will be closed for utilities work on the Mercer Street Corridor project.

THIS WORK HAS BEEN DELAYED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER: This Sunday, expansion joint work will require the closure of all lanes but one on the NE 45th Street Viaduct from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the work, a flagger will alternate traffic east and westbound on the one open traffic lane.
