More food trucks on a street near you? City Council OK’s rule change

The City Council has just approved a change in the city rules that have required food trucks to find private lots to set up on: Now they’ll be allowed to get permits to park on streets, with some restrictions, as detailed by our partners at the Seattle Times. (To read the full text of what the council approved, here’s the ordinance, and here’s a related resolution.)

I love food trucks. A lot of them make better food than most restaurants and are a lot cheaper than sitting in a restaurant.

This is such great news, I hope that means Lumpia World, and many other great food trucks, will come (back) to West Seattle!

Great news! More food options are always welcome in West Seattle.

I could care less about food trucks…I wish they would get rid of the water taxi…get rid of Alki Kayak tours…put a herring pens in Elliot Bay and encourage the Salmon to come back towards the shore so we could catch some REAL food like in the old days! Nothing is better than home cooked food.

This is a good thing, maybe create some jobs in these tough times??? Plus, great food!

Here is the correct link for the Seattle Times article:

The one in the post directs back to the previous WSB article.

That’s the exact URL I had, and no coding error, so don’t know why it wouldn’t work for you … TR
      .
(amended – a team member tells me he found the broken link and fixed it, and I hadn’t seen his note yet. Oops. Thanks for the flag and sorry for the error – I was offline in transit from the courthouse for a while after putting that story up)

Good start, but I’d like to see even fewer restrictions. The 50 foot rule and the no residential area seem like restrictions that need to be tweaked if not eliminated. But, again, a good start!

Nice, but I still want MOBILE food trucks – a summer of taco trucks coming thru the neighborhood blaring Guadalajara! I’d hand my kid a $5 for that over $1 for chemical-based ice cream-style treats.

We had Skillet Street in front of our office last summer. They were giving away food in support for a law like this. I would gladly welcome them back to the same location. Oh and Marination Nation, Maximus Minimus, and Lumpia World to name a few.

    yay!

Good news, but I don’t care if Lumpia World ever comes back to WS. They are so flaky and disrespectful of their customers. Always leaving behind previous locations in favor of bigger and better. Check their FB or Twitter pages to see how often they cancel.

Get ready for store front restaurants to start a feud with them as they park closer and closer. It won’t be the first time either.
    .
I look forward to having them around, I like the food they serve and variety of options.

I am wondering what effect this will have on available parking on the streets…do they take more than one spot? Can they stay in the spot longer than the posted times? We see the parking police scooter marking and ticketing all the time on California and nearby…does it apply to food trucks also?
Actually, I am just curious how that works.

Sorry, comment time is over.
