Followup: West Seattle Water Taxi spring/summer schedule

As first reported here yesterday, the King County Water Taxi‘s West Seattle-to-downtown run will start its new spring/summer 7-day-a-week schedule on April 8th. And now we have details of how that’ll work this year, including shuttle and game-day plans. The schedule is online here, and you can read on for the overview!

Here’s the full news release just sent by the county:

The West Seattle/Downtown Seattle Water Taxi operated by the King County Ferry District will again offer an enhanced spring/summer schedule beginning April 8 that will include daily service across Elliott Bay.

In addition to offering 15-minute weekday service during morning and afternoon commutes, the new schedule includes extended Friday night service between Seacrest Dock and Pier 50 and daily weekend sailings to give residents and visitors more opportunity to avoid congestion and construction work when traveling between West Seattle and downtown.

And the water taxi will again make a trip to the game a breeze by offering expanded service for sports fans attending evening Mariners and Sounders games. Special service will be offered for home games scheduled between April 8 and October 30. Eight additional departures will sail every 30-minutes with the last departure of the evening from West Seattle at 11 p.m.

“Not only is the West Seattle Water Taxi a historic icon, it is also a convenient alternative to single occupancy vehicles,” said Ferry District Chair and King County Councilmember Joe McDermott. “I look forward to seeing many familiar faces on the boat this spring and summer.”

West Seattle residents who use Metro Transit shuttles to get to and from Seacrest Dock will also see expanded service beginning April 8. Shuttle routes 773 and 775 will remain in service through the afternoon commute period, but will not service any arrivals or departures into West Seattle past 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. However, Sunday shuttle service will be extended to serve passengers taking the final 8 p.m. water taxi trip from downtown. Both West Seattle shuttle routes will remain free to the public.

Now if only the Metro buses schedules worked well with the Water Taxi schedule it would forever be a part of my commute.

Well, going to the game would be great, since the shuttle vans operate on the way there. But after the game, everyone without a car is stuck on the West Seattle side, walking in the dark trying to get home. And don’t tell me to drive my car down there. Ever been to Alki on a warm Summer evening? Absolutely no parking.

I second your thought, Kara. The water taxi shuttle waits WAY too long to depart after the taxi drops off.

I agree. I love the water taxi but the lack of usable connecting transit makes it worthless to anybody who can’t walk home or to other bus lines. I will continue to use the water taxi because I don’t mind the mile+ walk home. Others..?

Sorry, comment time is over.
