West Seattle weather: NO trash/recycling pickup again today

Just in from Seattle Public Utilities: As it was on Tuesday, trash/recycling pickup is CANCELED again today – put out double NEXT Wednesday. Here’s the news release just received:

Garbage, yard waste and recycling collection has been postponed in Seattle for a second day, due to dangerous road conditions; icy side streets prohibit safe collections. There will be no residential services on Wednesday, November 24.

Collection services will be available on Wednesday, November 24, in Seattle on a limited basis for commercial and multi-family accounts where access allows.

Customers whose containers were not collected on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of this week will have them collected next week on their regularly scheduled pick-up day, and will be allowed to set out double their normal amount of garbage, yard waste and recycling at no additional charge.

When setting out extra waste, customers are encouraged to place perishable food items in their collection containers and set bagged, non-perishable items next to the containers.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25, no garbage, food and yard waste or recycling collections will take place in Seattle. Collections scheduled for Thursday will occur on Friday, and Friday collections will occur on Saturday. Please be sure to have your containers out by 7 a.m. to ensure collection.

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will continue to post service updates on www.seattle.gov/util. Customers can also reach SPU for information by calling Customer Service at (206) 684-3000.

No no no!! That’s what I was dreading. My yard waste is already filled with leaves from the neighbor’s tree and I was counting on it being emptied before I have two turkey carcasses to deal with! No idea what I’m going to do with them now. The crows are going to have a feast on our street for sure.

Bogie, perhaps one of your neighbors will have room in their compost container. On my block we do a lot of that. Somebody always has extra space or even pratcially empty container. With a few neighbors, we don’t even have to ask anymore. We just walk down the street looking for empty space.

Are you in an apartment building? Or somehow served by someone besides Waste Management?

I am in a condo with the garage facing California. I am uncertain who collects our garbage/recycle. I’ll do a little research there and get back to you.

Bogie: freeze the carcasses until the next pickup, or better yet, give them to me and I’ll make soup :) I can pick them up!

The container has a WASTE MANAGEMENT sticker on it. !?!

How “nice” of the city to not charge us any additional fees next week. Since THEY decided not to pick up the trash, recycling, yard waste, etc. it wouldn’t be MY fault to have double the amount of garbage, now would it?

Jeebus. The level of retardation w/ city services is astounding sometimes.

Meanwhile, I’m leaving my cans out at the curb where I put them on Monday afternoon (in anticipation of our regular Tues pickup). They’re too heavy to move back to the side of the house and with an extra week of stuff in them, they’ll be IMPOSSIBLE next week. Too bad, too sad.

Sorry, comment time is over.
