Well-kept semi-secret? Delridge CC computer lab open!

Circulated on a couple of city mailing lists today: A reminder that the Delridge Community Center has a computer lab available for anyone to use, teens through seniors. Lab coordinator Leslie Howle says there’s usually room for more to come use it, explaining:

We provide a free computer lab for teens through seniors to use our 12 computers and access the internet. We offer homework help for teens only from 2:30 – 4 every day and the rest of the time we are open to everyone to drop in and use the lab. We offer very inexpensive classes, some geared for seniors in particular and some for all adults, on computer basics and fun things like Photoshop and building a blog or website. … Beginning in January, we will be expanding our hours and offering the time between 1 and 2:30 for seniors to come use “open lab” time or take a class. We will also be available to help adults with resume writing and job search during that time and in the evenings.

Haven’t been to Delridge Community Center? Here’s a map. And you can check Delridge CC hours on its website.

    yes, I discovered this lab, and very grateful to have access last year when my computer crashed and Seattle libraries were closed

    what is their age for ‘seniors’, or is there no age criteria, just self id?

    ever since I turned 50, have learned that every entity has different min age for ‘senior’; AARP starts at 50; City of Seattle has jobs assistance for 55+; senior housing starts at 62; age for senior discounts runs the gamut from 50 to 65; some even list 70 for senior discount

    Senior classes at Delridge are listed for those 55 and over, but exceptions are often made for self-identified seniors :). In 2011, RecTech will also begin offering programming for teens, adults, and seniors at Southwest Community Center. Stay tuned for more good things to come!

    Thanks for posting our information, Tracy!

    Adults and teens over 12 can use the lab from 2:30 – 8:30 M – TH now, and in January we will open a little earlier to allow older adults time during the day to use the internet or take a class at Delridge Community Center between 1 – 2:30pm. The 4 to 8:30pm time is still open to all in 2011.
    You can go online at http://www.seattle.gov/parks/ and click on the Classes and Programs “SPARC” Box to find more information about classes. I look forward to meeting you at the RecTech Lab.

    Cheers;
    Leslie
