Got a suggestion? West Seattle donations, in search of recipients

Every year, AAA offices around the state collect toiletries – shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc., especially in “hotel sizes” – in the “Soap for Hope” drive. Alison from AAA in The Junction e-mailed to say that the West Seattle residential facility to which her office had been giving their donations isn’t around any more, so they are trying to figure out who the beneficiary for this year’s drive can be. Got a suggestion? Post a comment – or if you’d rather make the suggestion offline, AAA’s office number is 206-937-8222. (P.S. Once again this year, we will have a running list of holiday-time donation and fundraising drives on the forthcoming WSB Holidays page, so please let us know about anything you’re working on.)

I serve on the board of a great nonprofit, Plymouth Housing Group,(www.plymouthhousing.org) which provides permanent homes for over 1000 formerly homeless people in our community. We gratefully accept toiletries for our residents and make them available through our essential supply center. Here’s a link for more info and a contact person. http://plymouthhousing.org/volunteer/Plymouth_Tenant_Closet_flyer.pdf

Thanks AAA for doing this for the community!

there are many people without jobs in West Seattle who rely on food stamps and/or food banks, but basic necessities as toiletries & toilet paper are not available, and cannot afford to buy

I suggest donating to West Seattle Helpline and/or West Seattle Food Bank to give to folks who are struggling to get by, trying desperately to get paid work and not become homeless, and in need of these basic necessities

I am one of the volunteer shelter coordinators for Holy Rosary Women’s Shelter right here in West Seattle. We house 10 women on Friday and Saturday nights who are always in need of toiletries.

Please consider directing donations of toiletries to Navos. A non profit organization with outpatient services based in West Seattle and Burien, we are one of two largest providers of mental health services in King County. Our clients are children, families and adults, all living in or near poverty, all coping with serious and persistent mental and emotional illness. Through a client organized effort, we distribute toiletries to our clients who can’t afford to purchase them. Many are homeless and the gift of donated toiletries helps to restore dignity and sense of pride.
For more information, go to navos.org. Contact us at 206-933-7032. Thank you for your consideration and generousity.

Hickman House (transitional housing for abused women and children) in W.Seattle and Compass Center downtown. All of those mentioned above are worthwhile.

Sound Mental Health http://www.smh.org is another good idea. They provide resources to local homeless adults and families who are in need of such items. I think any of these places listed above are great and many of them share clients who would all benefit. So glad you can share and help. :)
