West Seattle traffic alert: 16th SW paving to start July 26

Just got word from SDOT that the next segment of repaving on 16th SW, from Brandon to Dawson (map), is set to start on July 26th. SDOT’s Marybeth Turner says that detour information will be available next week, but it’ll be “similar to (last year’s project).” (Here’s the infopage on the SDOT website.)

Didn’t they JUST re-pave this last year?!

Separate but adjacent section. That was Brandon to Findlay.

I imagine the Metro 125 re-route will be similar to last year ? I understand the idea of doing it in summer when there’s less school traffic, and there’s better paving weather, but man, the walk from 18th/Dawson, up and over the hill to catch the bus on Delridge seems a little longer in the hot weather…. at least it will be cooler in Sept. when the project is wrapping up….

How about the rest of WS? Delridge for one is hell.

I bet they’re putting in more speed bumps.

Oh please no more speed bumps. Why couldn’t they have just done a bigger stretch, it needed repaving but it was a major pain of a detour.

someone should post a photo of the sign at the bottom of the hill- at 18th and Dawson. it is comical. (I didn’t have a camera handy when we went by). it’s as if SDOT grabbed the only electronic sign available in the warehouse (which is gi-mongous) and plopped it in some poor person’s yard. at least now you can’t say that they (SDOT) didn’t warn you.

I agree with Sam, the extra mile from 18th/Dawson to Delridge/Oregon is a schlep in the summer, especially for those of us who are older and have joint problems. Metro was certainly creative when it came to the Pigeon Point sewer detour; you’d think they could find a better way to deal with this than just skipping our hill.

It seems just a touch excessive and unfair that they would close this for this long just to repave a tiny section of road. And a second for the bus rerouting. I have to carry heavy stuff with me to my job downtown, and adding an extra mile to my hike in the summer heat blows. They should have a stop at the top of the hill at least, at 23rd?

Sorry, comment time is over.
