Just in case you absolutely have to leave the peninsula this weekend – despite the lure of West Seattle Summer Fest, the Seafair Pirates’ Landing, and other events – here’s the SDOT Weekend Traffic Advisory listing where else in Seattle you’ll find crowds and closed streets – read on:

The events range from food and arts festivals and children’s parades in Ballard, the International District, Madison Park, Queen Anne, Wallingford, and West Seattle to sports including the Queen Anne Fun Run and Walk, the Seafair Milk Carton Derby on Green Lake, the Mariners taking on the NY Yankees and the Sounders playing Dallas. The Seattle Department of Transportation encourages motorists to help reduce traffic congestion by taking one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, Metro Transit, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible. Friday, July 9

61st Wallingford Kiddies Parade: 11 a.m.

Staging begins at 9:30 a.m. on N 45th Street between Corliss and Sunnyside Avenue N; and on Corliss between N 44th Street and N 46th Street
Parade route: Starts at N 45th Street and Corliss Avenue N; goes west on 45th to Woodlawn Avenue N; and south on Woodlawn to N 43rd Street. Anticipate congestion in the area.

Wallingford Street Festival: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Takes place on Wallingford Avenue N between N 45th and N 43rd streets;

Wallingford will be closed between N 45th Street to N 43rd Street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Crown of Queen Anne Fun Run and Walk: 8 a.m.

Event begins at Fifth Avenue W and W Halladay Street, runs 3.3 miles along Queen Anne Boulevard, and ends at Coe Elementary School at Seventh Avenue W and W McGraw Street.

Queen Anne Children’s Parade: 11 a.m.
300 expected
Parade route: starts at Queen Anne Community Center at First Avenue W and W Crockett Street; goes south on First to W Blaine Street; west on Blaine to Third Avenue W; north on Third Avenue to W Howe Street; and east on Howe into the Community Center playfield; Seattle Police will escort.

Ballard Seafood Fest: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
