Followup: New Hiawatha Playfield track is done!

Just checked with Garrett Farrell from Seattle Parks, and he confirms that installation is complete for the final touches on the Hiawatha Playfield renovations – the rubberized track surface – so the fences are down and the field/track are open again.

I wonder if they are going to be a little bit stricter about kids riding bikes on the track now…

    Dount it, Robert.

Already saw two dogs there this a.m. despite being clearly marked.

Oh well, some people just think the rules don’t apply to them and I’m tired of trying to change the world – I would just like those same people to get a ticket once in awhile!

    Track is sweet!

The track sure is sweet! My little guy and I did our ‘every Friday’ lap and it was squishy-soft comfortable. There was a boy roller-blading around it – I know bikes aren’t allowed but does that mean JUST bikes, or wheels in general?
I thought it was for feet only but I didn’t say anything…

Regarding the track surface, bicycles are not prohibited on the running track. The signs you see posted with the bicycle with the red slash through it applies only to the synthetic playfield.

Similarly, SMC 18.20.080 prohibits dogs (leashed or unleashed) from being on the playfield, as the signs indicate. However, leashed dogs are *not* prohibited from being on the running track. Put another way, a track is not a field.

Sorry, comment time is over.
