Seattle All-City Band hits the road today for a TV tryout

That’s the Seattle All-City Band, performing at the first-ever Band Jam at Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle last summer. The student musicians are from all over the city, but they’re led by Marcus Pimpleton, the renowned music man from Denny International Middle School and Chief Sealth High School. Last night, band members rehearsed at Denny to get ready for a road trip today: They’re headed to Portland to try out for the “America’s Got Talent” TV show. We got the tip from Carrie Hewitt, who says someone from the show saw an online video of the ACB and invited them to come try out – this is the second day of a two-day round of tryouts in Portland. The actual comment from the producer was that she was “blown away” by the performance she saw online. A great opportunity to promote an outstanding music program!! Break a leg!!

I couldn’t stop watching the 4 minutes of video. So much fun. I wish them all well and can’t wait to hear how it goes.

My sons played in All City from 1999 to 2003. Great experience for all of us. A diverse group of musicians and a fantastic way to spend the summer months marching in parades. All the best to Marcus and ALL CITY BAND…you’ve definitely got talent!

Wow! I am so impressed! I’ve always been a fan of Marcus’ and he never ceases to impress me. Seattle schools have some amazing, competitive music programs, and this is a perfect example of that! I did ACB for one summer and these students literally devote an entire summer to tirelessly rehearsing and polishing every single detail- over and over again.

Thanks for this story, WSB! I’m looking forward to hearing exciting things about this extremely talented group.

From hereon out apparently mum’s the word till it’s determined what happens – I remember that was the case with American Idol auditions when I worked at Q13 and the show came here for tryouts – but we look forward to eventually hearing how it goes. Seeing the ACB in parades is always a summer highlight – they are usually in the West Seattle Grand Parade as well as the Seafair Torchlight Parade, among others … TR (parade nut)
