one of my favorite intersections in WS. Such a disaster.

Any word on what happened? Consider that “no car was involved”, then this can’t be bundled up with all the other bike+car accidents that happen.

We both talked with officers at the scene. “She went over the handlebars in the intersection” is the most detailed description we got, but both officers we talked to (at the intersection and down the hill, where Genesee was blocked off for a while – we had been down at Don Armeni for a walk when we got the call so we both went, usually one of us goes and the other stays at HQ monitoring scanner and taking called-in info) reiterated that no car was involved. It was most noteworthy at the time in that it closed off a busy street for a while. She was taken to the hospital by private ambulance, meaning not life-threatening injuries.

I was coming up the hill on my bike when I saw the fire trucks, ambulance and police car. She was on a stretcher with another biker (still on his bike) looking down at her. Obviuosly I thought a car pulled out in front of her. It sounds like she hit her front brake to hard and went over the handlebar…or she had a loose grip on her handlebar, hit a bump, causing her hands to shoot down and she lost control of the bike. That happened to me when I hit a raised manhole during the construction last summer at Fauntleroy/California intersection. My hands went down, slamming my chest onto my bars and I went over. I picked myself up and painfully walked back and noticed the contractor had the manhole about 3-inches up from the rest of the road surface….thanks.

Sorry, comment time is over.
