West Seattle Weather Watch: New warning about cold temps

Just issued late today by the National Weather Service – a “special weather statement” saying it’s going to get REALLY cold. Which you’ve probably already figured out if you’ve been outside at all in the past few hours. Not good news with the roads wet from this afternoon’s brief rainfall, but snow still isn’t mentioned beyond those possible showers tomorrow night. Here’s the NWS statement. (Still doesn’t look like anything will happen before LATE night – well after the Hometown Holidays Tree Lighting at 5 pm in The Junction, which also will give you a chance to applaud the West Seattle Volunteer Recognition honorees!)

I would like to remind everyone that it rained today and all that moisture is now freezing.
I just returned from a trip to Blockbuster and Roxbury and White Center are just starting to get a little slick.
All of the yard and the roofs are already covered in frost.

Be careful out there tonight and Sat. morning.

Not a good time for my furnace to go on the fritz.

Whoa. Just went out for an epic walk w/the dog. It’s getting very slick out there. Someone lost control of an old, rear-wheel drive pickup on 98th and crashed. Stay off the road if you can, people.

Looks like they sanded, salted, or sanded/salted the descent to the W. Seattle Bridge eastbound.

Any updates on road conditions? I woke up early thinking of my Xmas lighting project (“For the want of a nail, a shoe was lost…”) and was planning on heading to McLendons but if it is icy…even a Subaru can’t deal with Black Ice…

We are actually out early this morning. California and Fauntleroy OK so far. It’s the sidewalk in front of your house, etc., that could get you. Much car-scraping up in the higher elevations (OK, maybe we’re about 350 feet up).

Roxbury seems to be up to speed and not bad at all.

Sorry, comment time is over.
