Word of advice to those of you going overseas: watch Midnight Express, conduct yourselves accordingly while over there and don’t do anything you wouldn’t do stateside. Just more celebrity news taking the place of the national discussion we need to be having regarding gun control and how to handle the growing problem of the mentally ill since Ronald Reagan closed a majority of the public mental health facilities. In case you were too engrossed with Tiger Woods and Amanda Knox this week, 4 Lakewood police officers were shot by a man who was mentally ill.

I keep thinking of the Charles Manson case and the young women involved in that. Did she actually slit Kercher’s throat? Who knows, but she was involved in some way. She put herself at the scene of the crime. I’m hoping the defense is able to save her on the basis of no motive and weak DNA evidence. Because, unfortunately, everything else seems mighty weird and incriminating. I hope there is support for her family.
