The West Seattle High School Wildcats took both ends of the West Seattle Holiday Basketball Classic on their home court Saturday night, with the varsity girls defeating Seattle Lutheran High School 55-26 and the boys pulling off a 42-32 win. In both games, West Seattle used a run-and-gun offense with differing degrees of success. For summaries of, and clips, from, both games, read on!

In the opener, the Wildcats used the strategy well. They moved the ball up the court efficiently and made the Saints scramble for missed shots. Here’s a short clip that shows what that looked like.

The top scorer for West Seattle was Brianne Goulet with 10 points. For Seattle Lutheran, Elyssa Watford had 13 points and 14 rebounds.

The second game, between the boys’ varsity teams, saw the Wildcats open up with a full-court press that they hoped would lead to lots of fast breaks. Throughout the first quarter, that came true, and West Seattle held a 10-point lead through most of the first half. But the differential stalled at 10, as the game became very tight and physical under the boards. Near the end of the second half, Seattle Lutheran found a couple of holes in the West
Seattle press. The Saints managed to use those advantages to bring the game within five points by the end of the third. Things stayed that way until West Seattle regained their momentum near the midpoint of the fourth quarter, when they pulled away once again.

The third quarter was a low-scoring, tightly-fought situation for both teams, and this clip shows you why.

The standouts for West Seattle were Devin Andrews with 17 points and Josh Kasim with 13. The Saints’ top scorers were Thomas Overshine with 10 points and Fred Lisko with seven.
