In case you were wondering: Cleanup in The Junction

A few people asked about a sizable sludgy mess in the street in the heart of The Junction this morning. We didn’t get a photo before the cleanup was complete about an hour ago, but we did nail down what it was all about, after getting a hint it had something to do with a bus – Metro’s Linda Thielke confirms, “Some power steering fluid spilled from a bus. Metro’s spill response team responded to do the cleanup.”

I thought this had to do with all the trash at the Junction. I walked up Alaska Street towards the Sunday Market…on Sunday…and was appalled at the amount of trash on the south side of Alaska. There was trash all over the sidewalk. I picked up two plastic bags, but left the remaining trash.

Hmmmm… that must have been the route 22 coach broke down with a Metro service van behind it, that that my 22 passed by at the Westwood Village stop, across from the Driver’s Licensing place, at around 11:40 this morning. I also noticed it was running maybe ten minutes or so late as it passed by my apartment earlier.

Felt bad for the driver, and any passengers that had been on board, or would be needing to catch it up to White Center. Or, for that matter, heading back into town, if Metro couldn’t snag a replacement coach for awhile, or at all. But, was happy I decided to catch the bus when I did, instead of a half hour earlier, which I had considered.
