Update: Investigation at Westwood Village

It started as an assault-with-weapons call – then it “closed” on the Fire Department 911 log – which means either a false alarm/unfounded report OR medical attention’s not needed. WSB contributing journalist Christopher Boffoli is on the scene and says it looks like the latter – tons of police near the Bank of America at Westwood Village, yellow tape, and what appears to be a body on the ground. More as we get it. 1:11 AM UPDATE: Police tell Christopher they are “95 percent sure” the person died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, so homicide detectives are NOT coming out to the scene.

Stopped by the BofA this morning to use the cash machine and noticed the silver SUV in the photo still parked in front of the bank. Thought it was a little unusual, but now it’s a little creepy.

So they are thinking someone killed himself in front of the bank? That seems like an odd place.

DC: I thought the same thing, especially last night when reporting the story at the scene and trying to figure out what exactly happened. But I wondered if maybe the man was having some kind of financial problems and that maybe the bank branch held some kind of significance for him. Tough to say, really.

Obviously folks on the FB page seem to think it’s a joking matter.

    Nothing funny about suicide. Sucks.

    Brian,
I agree with the FB comments. Having lost a family member to suicide, it is so devistating. Unbearable guilt…It’s amazing to me that there are people that are that incensitive…think what you want, but do your really need to post it for all to see?
I doubt they’d do that if they had to identify themselves…..cowards!

This is terrible news! hopefully friends and family of the victim have a support system around to help them through this trying time.

Yeah, def. very odd and/or ironic circumstances. I almost can’t believe it was suicide.

how do iget a link to the facebook link?

  • WSB October 25, 2009 (1:14 pm)

We share WSB (and sometimes other WS-related) links on our FB page and discussions ensue there as they do here (same thing with Twitter). Our FB and Twitter links are in the list atop the right sidebar – direct link:

    .
You have to “friend” us, however, if you have not already (and 2,800+ have, thank you – it’s one more channel we use to get and receive news, and we know a lot of people spend more time on FB than anywhere else online, so we do our best to share breaking-news bulletins there too as well as here) – TR

Sorry, comment time is over.
