Skillet in West Seattle, week 2 and early outlook for week 3

We mentioned this briefly in our as-it-happened coverage of the just-concluded Sustainable West Seattle Festival (first report/photos here, a wrapup with more photos/video later) — Skillet Street Food drew a crowd to Seattle Lutheran High School‘s parking lot today (here’s the saga of how they wound up there) – thanks to Jake for the photo above, taken around 11:15; several other reports indicate they ran out of food before 2 pm. So will they be back next week, given that this was billed as a trial run? We just checked with Skillet’s Josh Henderson and Seattle Lutheran’s Bil Hood; Josh says he hopes so but needs to check with SLHS first, and Bil also said they’ll confer tomorrow – so stay tuned for word then. In the meantime, show your favorite West Seattle restaurants some love (three of them are WSB sponsors, we should note – Skylark Club and Cafe, Cafe Revo, and Ama Ama Oyster Bar and Grill), as we plan to do tonight.

They were out of two items by 12:15 and out of food around 1pm. Burger & fries were really good.

Hey, my girlfriend & I are in that picture! Pulled pork “sammy” and stew were awesome. Hope they come back.

why do they keep running out of food? i thought they were open until 2 pm? seems like poor planning. i know it’s a small space, but can’t someone bring more food to the air stream? a bit lame and annoying for those who wait in line.

    Hey there!

Thanks to all of you in West Seattle for making Skillet feel so welcomed. It is an absolute blast to cook for you guys!

To K and Celeste17, and for that matter any one who comes up to Skillet….You are right, it’s totally lame and annoying for you to come up to the window or wait in line and *shazam* we don’t have something that you wanted to eat. Sometimes though at Skillet we try to run “one off items,” like the “lemongrass pork sandwich” or the “spicy beef lettuce cups.” Since we change our menu so frequently it’s nice to be able to run an item we are excited about in small quantities, have some fun, and maybe surprise a few people. Also, we normally have people to, as you say ” bring more foor for the trailer,” unfortunatley this week half our staff was in Walla Walla for a winery dinner, and the other half of us were making the magic happen at the trailer in West Seattle.

So to you two and everyone else, I personally apologize. West Seattle has been amazing, and we still haven’t quite gotten a handle on how much of everything we need to bring to feed you all. This Sunday, I personally promise to bring a ton of food, pray for sun, and hope to see all of you out there having a great time!

And to the guy who brought us the small boquet of what appeared to be edible greens….thank you.

I’ll be visiting Skillet sometime soon. We showed Ama Ama some love last night and I’m still savoring how yummy it was. Their 3 for $30 dinner is so fabulous!

Thanks for the post, Peter! Welcome to the neighborhood! I’m sure you’ll sort it all out…and we’ll pray for sun as well!

Got there before 1. Only things left at the time were the burger and the stew. That’s OK – I was there for the burger anyway :) Really wanted to try the poutine..next time. Burger was very, very good and the accompanying fries were delish. After we got our food we sat across the street on a planter. Around 1:30 it looked like they were closing up. Glad we got there when we did! We’ll definitely be back :)

Sorry, comment time is over.
