First jobless, now homeless: Sherry can’t keep Moon any more

That’s Moon the cat. Moon needs someplace to stay – short term or long term. His person, Sherry, lost her job, then got evicted this week, according to Delridge resident Paul Boyarin, who met Sherry at her recent yard sale. Now that she’s staying at an emergency shelter, she can’t keep Moon with her; the neighbor who’s watching him can’t keep him; Paul himself is maxed out with four foster cats; and local cat rescuers say they’re full to capacity right now. So Paul wonders if anyone in WSB-land would be interested in taking care of Moon, who’s about three years old, described as “very friendly and sweet” and “a well-loved indoor cat.” If you can help, here’s how to reach Paul: pzalic@yahoo.com

What a sweet face! I’m so sorry to hear about Sherry’s challenges – good for her neighbors for trying to help.

Do we know – male/female? fixed? that info might be helpful to those who already have pets…

I’m sorry to hear about Sherry and Moon’s situation. I wish I could help, but my cat hates other cats and it would not end well (not to mention my lease allowing only one cat).

My cat has a communicable disease (corona virus) and thus I cannot help, but I have put this article on both my LiveJournal and FaceBook pages. I know that it would break my heart if I ever had to leave my Lizzie. I hope someone can help…

I also posted the article on my facebook page to see if anybody’s interested.

    Hi Paul,

We just sent you an email. Please have Moon’s current caretaker contact Nancy Howard of Feral Care. They have room for her. Yeah!

We are catless for the time being and I have sent a note to Paul stating we could probably take Moon for a while. We live on Barton St, below 35th and could provide visitation etc. Hopefully something can be worked out so Moon can hang in a safe quiet place so Sherry has one less thing to worry about while trying to recover from the damage the economy and financial debacle is causing so many folks.

Along with helping Moon out, anyone out there hiring that could help out Moon’s mom? Also, if we know of any jobs that could help her out, how do we contact her?

  • EmmyJane March 20, 2009 (11:49 am)

I emailed Paul- we might be able to take Moon short term if Moon likes doggies. :-)

Saw that Full Tilt is looking for weedend help: https://wsb.blackfin.biz/blog/forum/topic.php?id=4185

Also- I have a bag full of women’s clothes, sizes medium to large, if Sherri or anyone else that’s going through a hard time needs them. Just PM me.

All the concern for Moon is touching but what about helping a homeless woman out? Shouldn’t we be trying to keep these two together in a safe warm place for both human and feline? What about donations that could be used to set up the owner in a place of her own? It’s up to all of us to reach out. We all know this could be ourselves any day now.

Neighbor – Just a little context – when I originally got the note about this night before last, it included a request for some direct help for Sherry, place to store her stuff, but when I checked back with the intermediary last night before writing this, it turned out that had been taken care of, and the main challenge right now was to find a place for Moon. Just so you know … though that’s not to say she couldn’t use more … I’m sure that Paul would be happy to hear from anyone with anything else to suggest or offer … thanks to the caring WSB community yet again … TR

I’ve contacted Paul and am able to take Moon for as long as it takes…tho I have another kitty and they will need to be happy with each other. I have also asked that Sherry contact me…I may be able to help with a warm safe place for her until she gets on her feet again. That extra bedroom is really wasted space as a huge closet. I encourage all readers to think about we can indeed become a neighborhood of people who are good neighbors. Maybe it’s the perfect time to develop some kind of network for interim support. Lovely, the Karma in these posts is so great. WSB, please let us know how this turns out. We all are a story waiting to be told…

  • angelescrest March 20, 2009 (4:40 pm)

The ability of the WSB to help the community astounds, as does Sheila’s amazing generosity.

  • WSB March 20, 2009 (4:44 pm)

We got a note from the original intermediary – not named in the story, she’s just working behind the scenes – who says there’s been a great response and they promise to let us know as soon as some things are settled. Thanks to all you fabulous, warm, giving folks … remember there are many ways to help your community day in and day out, too … we write about them here as often as we can … and when you see a need arise, please let us know so we can share the information … TR

I applaud Sheila for not just “dumping” Moon on the streets when she has to move on like so many other people do!

I have 4 cats, 3 of which are males. 2 of the males aren’t real happy with each other, but ya know, despite a fight here and there they do work it out, so PEOPLE do the right thing and open your homes to an extra critter who needs your help NOW!!

  • layne March 22, 2009 (4:42 pm)

ahh. So glad a potential home has been found.

He looks eerily like my current cat, so I suppose sneaking a second one into my apartment wouldn’t have been out of the question… :)

  • KSJ March 22, 2009 (6:46 pm)

I’m late to this conversation but I’m very moved by all this! Sounds like it won’t be necessary this time, but there’s a local charity that helps in this situation – Whisker City in North Seattle.

Sorry, comment time is over.
