From cats to coyotes: A story, and a seminar

Just added another lost cat to the WSB Pets page. It’s a page you probably wouldn’t pay attention to until and unless you lost or found a pet; it still features some very-long-lost pets, like Sacha the cat (left), who’s been gone almost a year and also stars in a new Seattle Weekly story by West Seattle-residing Mike Seely, “The Lost Cats of Poverty Gulch.” It’s not just about cats and West Seattle – it’s also about greenspaces and coyotes, among other things. Which gives us another excuse to remind you that one of the excellent “Living With Wildlife” presentations is coming to West Seattle later this month – we hope it’s a full house, as the one we covered in Magnolia earlier this year was laden with helpful information. Be at the Camp Long Lodge, 7 pm, Tuesday 10/21.

Great article. So glad someone has commented on all of these missing cats in West Seattle.
I look at the Pets page almost daily.

I completely relate to the Morisseau’s plight, having lost a sweet female black cat years ago.
I looked for her in shelters/online for over a year. After awhile, I wondered if I’d even recognize her – there are so many black cats in shelters it’s overwhelming.

Now, we have a big white male cat. He was a wedding present a few years back. He’s indoors only, and that has allowed me to sleep at night.

I love cats and feel bad for the missing ones, but if you live in coyote land, keep your cats indoors! I have coyotes in my yard all the time (my backyard is Schmitz Park), and hear them every night. I find coyote poop in my backyard with cat fur occasionally. Coyotes are all over WS! Save a cat-keep it indoors!

One of the wonderful things about West Seattle is the abundance of wildlife — birds and coyotes. But it is so heartbreaking to see cats go missing. My last cat was indoor/outdoor, but I would never go that route again. We now have two cute little indoor only fluff balls. They enjoy the wildlife through the picture window and pounce on spiders in the house. Everyone wins (except the spiders).
