Thanks to the reader tip pointing us to a website now up for Ama Ama Oyster Bar & Grill, which is following Ovio at the NE corner of Cali/Edmunds. Not much on the site except the promise “Coming in October!”
We haven’t made contact yet with the proprietors to find out about the name’s origins. But we just keep hearing in our head the old faux hula song “Hukilau” — which has the line, “and all the ama-ama come swimmin’ to me …” However, the fish to which that refers is described as a “mullet,” not an oyster.
might it possibly come from this?
